CHICO, CA - History was made in Chico, California. At just 19 years old, Corey Day joined Steve Kinser as the only driver to win the Gold Cup Race of Champions three years in a row. Day’s third crown didn’t come easy — he led early, lost the top spot to Justin Sanders, and then stalked him through traffic before retaking the lead on lap 23. From there he defended relentlessly, threading lapped cars and holding off Sanders to claim the $100,071 payday.
Sanders, chasing his first Gold Cup title, settled for second after leading 18 laps, while Brad Sweet rounded out the podium in his 20th career attempt at the crown jewel. The rest of the top ten included James McFadden, Tanner Carrick, Daison Pursley, Spencer Bayston, Dominic Scelzi, Joey Ancona, and Sye Lynch. Hard Charger went to Caeden Steele, who climbed from 24th to 11th.
➡️ Up next: High Limit Racing heads to Douglas County Dirtrack in Oregon on Monday, August 25, then north to Burlington, Washington for the $126,000-to-win Skagit Nationals, August 28–30. In the championship battle, Brad Sweet holds the lead, with Rico Abreu just 71 points back and Brent Marks third, 120 behind.
