McHugh Tops Thunder on the Downs Opener at Toowoomba
The opening night of Thunder on the Downs at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway saw Lachlan McHugh storm to victory in the $10,000-to-win A-Main, fending off a high-quality field to keep his name firmly among the event’s elite. McHugh outpaced Jock Goodyer and Jamie Veal in a 35-lap feature that placed three past Thunder champions on the podium.

Jamie Veal set Quick Time in qualifying (10.795) before winning Heat 1, while Goodyer and McHugh claimed heats of their own alongside Luke Oldfield. Brock Hallett won the Mid-Pack Dash and Goodyer the Stars Dash, but it was McHugh who ultimately controlled the finale. Dylan Menz advanced through the B-Main to secure his transfer. Thunder on the Downs continues Saturday with another $10,000-to-win program, streaming live on Clay-Per-View.

Western World Entry List Open for 58th Annual Event
Entries are now open for the 58th Annual Western World Championships, one of USAC’s crown jewel weekends, set for November at Central Arizona Raceway. Known for its prestige and long history of crowning champions, the Western World remains a must-win event on the calendar for every USAC Sprint Car driver. From its beginnings in 1968 to its modern era, the event has been a proving ground for the sport’s best.

Competitors can now begin the process of registering, with USAC emphasizing early entries to lock in pit allocations and planning for the multi-division program. The Western World is expected to draw a field of national stars, regional contenders, and rising talents, adding another chapter to the half-century-plus legacy of the event.

Wyatt Burks Crowned 2025 POWRi WAR/MWRA Challenge Series Champion
Consistency and determination carried Topeka, Kansas’ Wyatt Burks to the 2025 Wholesale Batteries POWRi WAR/Midwest Wingless Racing Association Challenge Series title. Driving the Rumsey Special No. 11W, Burks compiled 2,380 points over the 10-race campaign, edging Jack Wagner by 120 markers in the final standings. Burks added his eleventh career series victory to his résumé, while also racking up eight top-five finishes and nine top-tens along the way.

The path to the championship wasn’t without challenges. Burks held off stiff competition from Wagner, Samuel Wagner, Wesley Smith, and Zachary Clark, each capable of snatching wins on Missouri’s wingless stages. His ability to finish consistently near the front — highlighted by a memorable victory in the Non-Wing Nationals prelim at Lake Ozark Speedway — ultimately delivered the edge in a season that once again underscored the competitive depth of POWRi’s non-wing ranks.

Penalty Report: Riley Kreisel Suspended and Fined by POWRi
POWRi officials have handed down a six-month suspension and a $1,000 fine to Riley Kreisel after an on-track retaliation incident during the Hockett/McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway. The altercation took place during POWRi WAR/MWRA competition on Sept. 20, when Kreisel made contact with Landon Simon under caution before exiting his car and attempting further confrontation. Officials quickly intervened and removed him from the track.

The penalties mean Kreisel is sidelined from all POWRi-sanctioned competition through the conclusion of the 2025 season, with the suspension resuming at the start of 2026. His payout from the night has been withheld, and he will be on probation for six months upon returning. POWRi emphasized its firm stance on retaliation, citing established rules against such behavior, and made clear that further infractions would invite harsher consequences.

BAPS Goes Old School with $5 Sprint Car Night in 2026
BAPS Motor Speedway is taking a bold approach to attract new fans, announcing that the 2026 Keystone Nationals will feature $5 general admission. The June 7 program, headlined by 410 Sprint Cars and supported by Extreme Stocks, will carry a standard purse but a drastically reduced ticket price not seen in central Pennsylvania for decades. General Manager Kolten Gouse believes this is a key step in lowering the barrier of entry for families and newcomers.

The “$5 Keystone Nationals” is being billed as an experiment in reconnecting with fans at the grassroots level, harkening back to an era when ticket prices were accessible to nearly everyone. If successful, the model could serve as inspiration for other tracks in the region to test creative approaches to fan engagement and attendance. With Pennsylvania’s deep sprint car culture, the promotion has already generated significant buzz.
