Fountain City, WI – August 19, 2025 — For the first time in series history, the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series thundered into Mississippi Thunder Speedway, and the debut delivered fireworks. In a feature that saw three different leaders in the first nine laps, Connecticut’s David Gravel rose to the occasion, holding off Michael Kofoid in a tense final-lap duel to secure his 12th win of the 2025 season.
The Race
Pole sitter Bill Balog paced the opening laps before Logan Schuchart powered by on lap four to take command. The lead swapped again just five laps later as Gravel slid underneath Schuchart in traffic to grab control.
From there, Gravel set the tone, but the action behind him never let up. Kofoid charged forward from ninth, passing Balog and closing rapidly on Gravel in the closing laps. The white flag set up a dramatic sprint to the checkers — Kofoid dove low in turn four, but Gravel’s momentum on the cushion carried him across the line by less than a car length.
At the flag it was:
-
David Gravel (2)
-
Michael “Buddy” Kofoid (83)
-
Logan Schuchart (1S)
-
Bill Balog (17B)
-
Garet Williamson (23)

Victory Lane – Gravel’s Words
“I didn’t really know where to run there at the end,” Gravel admitted in victory lane. “The bottom was good early, but then it slicked off on entry and it was hard to carry speed. I spun the tires a couple laps, but luckily we were good enough to get the job done. Huge thanks to Cody, Pete, Zach — these guys have been lights out this year. It’s been a lot of fun to drive this Huset’s Speedway No. 2 car.”
Reflecting on the track’s first Outlaws race, Gravel praised the unique surface:
“It’s a great track. So wide, and I feel like if it gets even wider, it’ll be tougher to run. The dirt here is sandy and gritty, so it has grip but once it goes away, it goes fast. For our first time here with no notes, the guys made the right calls, and I just had to do my job.”
