Bloomfield Fends Off Bayston to Win Padjen Classic Opener at Silver Dollar

CHICO, Calif. — It was a night of elbows-up racing at Silver Dollar Speedway, and 19-year-old Dylan Bloomfield stood tall with a thrilling victory in Wednesday’s Padjen Classic, kicking off Gold Cup week in style. Starting from the pole, Bloomfield had to survive an opening-lap crash involving Seth Standley and Jett Barnes, then outduel Spencer Baystonand Jesse Schlotfeldt through heavy traffic to seal the 30-lap win.

The early laps saw three-wide action and relentless battles throughout the field as Bloomfield controlled the top spot. But traffic tightened the gap, with Schlotfeldt briefly reeling him in while Bayston and Dominic Gorden traded sliders just behind. Bayston eventually cleared Schlotfeldt for second and mounted a late charge, but Bloomfield’s poise in navigating lapped cars kept him out front at the checkered flag.

The victory marked Bloomfield’s second win of 2025 and a milestone moment at Chico, where the Padjen Classic honored former promoters John and Robbie Padjen, who first brought the Gold Cup to the track in 1980. Behind the podium trio, Gorden and Tanner Holmes completed the top five, while names like Justin Sanders and Corey Dayfought through a deep 24-car field.

The 71st Gold Cup Race of Champions rolls on tonight with the first of two split-field preliminary programs for the 410 sprint cars. More than 60 entries are expected, featuring some of the nation’s biggest names alongside local standouts. Fans can catch all the action live on FloRacing.
