Buddy Kofoid Powers to Second 2025 Victory at River Cities

WORLD OF OUTLAWS SPRINT CARS

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Buddy Kofoid delivered a statement win Friday night at River Cities Speedway, charging from ninth to capture the 40-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series Feature. The California native’s late-race surge secured his second Outlaw victory of the season at the North Dakota bullring, completing a sweep of both visits in 2025.

Polesitter Emerson Axsom set the pace early before David Gravel powered to the lead on lap three. Sheldon Haudenschild ignited the crowd with a bold move in traffic to lead lap 12, but his night unraveled after contact with Skylar Gee sent him into the infield. That twist opened the door for Kofoid, who had already stormed into contention and used the cushion to climb past both Gravel and Axsom. From there, he controlled the final 12 laps to secure the victory.

“Took me a while to kind of crack the top five honestly… we had that first green run and passed a couple cars, and then was passing for sixth and wanted to restart on the outside after that red, but the way the scoring went back had to go back to the bottom. It actually worked out. I was content running the bottom here, didn’t want to give up on it in one and two yet. Some people were starting to get off of it before I gave up and I was able to pick some guys off there. Then I moved up and felt really good. It was a tough race… I always say you want to get in the Dash to have a chance to win these Outlaw races, but I guess we didn’t need the Dash today.”

Gravel held on for second after leading the opening third of the race, while Carson Macedo mounted a steady charge from seventh to finish third. Logan Schuchart earned Hard Charger honors, advancing ten positions to claim fourth, and Axsom settled for fifth after winning the Toyota Dash and leading the first laps.

The undercard featured Zach Hampton taking the MicroLite Last Chance Showdown and Adam Sobolik topping the C-Feature. Heat race wins went to Gravel, Kerry Madsen, Macedo, and Haudenschild. In time trials, Gravel set quick time in Group A at 10.377 seconds, while Macedo posted the fastest lap overall in Group B at 10.300.

The Grand Forks faithful were treated to classic River Cities action—tight sliders, cushion-pounding drama, and a late push that saw Gravel and Macedo chasing but never catching Kofoid. Next up, the World of Outlaws travel west to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., for the second leg of the Northern Tour on Saturday, August 23.

Thomas Jr. Dominates Night Two of Kokomo Smackdown

USAC NATIONAL SPRINT CARS

Kokomo, IN (Aug. 22, 2025) — Kevin Thomas Jr. delivered another Friday night masterpiece at Kokomo Speedway, leading all 30 laps to capture Night 2 of Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Sprint Car Smackdown XIV. The Rock Steady Racing driver earned his fourth Friday night Smackdown victory in the past five years, holding off a persistent Kyle Cummins in traffic and through a late restart.

Cummins, the current USAC National Sprint Car point leader, shadowed Thomas throughout the feature but was unable to wrestle the top spot away. Justin Grant worked forward to claim the final podium position, followed by Cale Coons and Jake Swanson. The race ran caution-free until a late slowdown set up a green–white–checkered finish, but Thomas was unshaken and powered home to victory.

Earlier in the program, Mitchel Moles set quick time in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying at 12.368 seconds, while heat race wins went to Swanson, C.J. Leary, Clinton Boyles, Kale Drake, and Cummins. Jack Hoyer survived a wild C-Main that saw flips by Jack James and Devan Myers, while Carson Garrett topped the 12-lap Semi to punch his ticket into the feature. Hard-charging Shane Cottle advanced from 23rd to 15th to earn the Rod End Supply Hard Charger Award.

The night also carried championship implications. Cummins extended his lead in the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National standings with 2,250 points, ahead of Moles (2,004) and Seavey (1,977). In Smackdown points, Cummins, Leary, Grant, Thomas, Moles, Danner, Drake, and Seavey are now locked into Saturday’s finale.

Saturday’s Night 3 will crown the Smackdown champion with a $30,000-to-win, 40-lap feature. The top-8 in points are locked in, while the rest of the field will fight through qualifying races, a C-Main, and a Semi to earn their spot. The popular “King of the Hill” two-car shootout will set the front rows, adding drama before the main event. Gates open at 4pm, cars hit the track at 6:30pm, and fans can catch all the action live at Kokomo Speedway or streamed on FloRacing.

The feature opened with James McFadden on point and early pressure from Sye Lynch and Jesse Schlotfeldt, who made bold moves in traffic to briefly steal the lead. Schlotfeldt, in particular, was sensational in the early going — slicing past Lynch and then stunning the crowd with a daring outside pass on McFadden to grab control. For several laps the young Washington driver looked poised to score the biggest victory of his career, carving through traffic with confidence before slipping off the backstretch. The mistake set up a chaotic sequence that saw contact, cautions, and a wounded McFadden still clinging to the front.

From there, Sanders methodically carved through the field, capitalizing on Bayston and McFadden’s struggles to grab control with nine laps to go. A late yellow set up a green-white-checkered showdown. Scelzi launched a final bid down low, and Thorson surged from 11th into the top three, but Sanders kept his line perfect to the checkered flag. McFadden hung on for fourth despite front-end damage, with Spencer Bayston rounding out the top five.

Earlier in the night, Kaleb Montgomery and Dominic Scelzi advanced through the B-Main, while heat race victories went to Caeden SteeleBrenham CrouchJace Park, and Tim KaedingDaison Pursley set quick time in qualifying at 11.573 seconds, edging Sanders by just .026.

The 71st Gold Cup Race of Champions now heads into its climactic final night on Saturday, where the stars of High Limit Racing and California’s best will battle for one of sprint car racing’s crown jewel prizes. Fans can watch the $100,071-to-win finale live on FloRacing.

Behind Timms, veteran Seth Bergman kept pace through traffic and secured a solid runner-up finish, while Montana’s own Trever Kirkland thrilled the home fans with a podium run in third. Blake Hahn worked the cushion late to claim fourth, and Canadian shoe Kelly Miller earned Hard Charger honors after climbing 11 spots to finish fifth.

The feature was marked by early chaos and attrition. Sam Hafertepe Jr. spun in turn four while running mid-pack, and later Elijah Gile hit the turn four wall in a heavy crash that brought out a red flag — he was able to walk away. Zach Blurton, who had run as high as third, saw his night unravel with mechanical failure inside the final ten laps.

Earlier in the program, Hafertepe set the tone in Qualifying Group 2 with a blistering 13.069-second lap, fastest of the 37 entries. Heat race wins went to Kirkland, Bergman, Gile, and Austyn Gossel, while Timms claimed the Dash to lock down the pole position for the feature. Hafertepe later won the Last Chance Showdown before rebounding to finish 13th in the main.

In victory lane, Timms praised his team and reflected on tackling Big Sky Speedway for the first time:

“This car it’s so fast and you know we kind of had a rough heat race there. We were really good in qualifying and made some changes after the heat. Got really good in the dash there, was able to get by Bergman and then put ourselves in a good starting spot for the main. I wasn’t really sure how the track was going to be, where the line was going to be for the first 5–10 laps, and the bottom stayed really greasy for most of the race surprisingly. It worked in at the end but it just felt really good down there off the start so I just stayed there. When we got to traffic, I could see most guys were bottom to middle, a few up top, so I had no other choice but to go up there and was able to get around a lot of lap cars. Man, this car is just so fast. I can go anywhere with it and it digs. First time to Montana, never been here before, and it’s an awesome racetrack. You fans make it great — I want to thank all of you for coming out. Pumped we could get the win, but the one we want is tomorrow.”

The early laps saw Shaffer and Price-Miller exchange sliders while Thomas joined the fray to create a three-car battle up front. A mid-race caution bunched the field and gave Thomas a shot at the lead, but Price-Miller regained control and never looked back. At the finish it was Price-Miller taking his sixth career All Star win, with Zane DeVault finishing a strong second and Shaffer rounding out the podium. Nate Dussel climbed to fourth, and Kasey Jedrzejek secured his first career top-five with the series in fifth.

The All Star Circuit of Champions continue their busy weekend with the Salute to Nickels Bros tonight, Saturday, August 23, at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.

Henry’s victory was his sixth at Attica this season and 12th overall in 2025 competition. Starting fourth, the Bellevue, Ohio driver surged to the front in the 30-lap A Main, tracking down early leaders before pulling away to secure another pivotal win in the championship hunt. Bryan Sebetto advanced from fifth to finish second, while DJ Foos charged from eighth to complete the podium. Chris Andrews, who led early laps, settled for fourth, with teenager Bryce Lucius rounding out the top five.

The preliminaries featured fast laps from Henry (12.199), Andrews (12.300), and Trey Jacobs (12.407), while Lucius, Zeth Sabo, and Foos earned heat race victories. Brandon Moore took Hard Charger honors, moving from 19th to 12th in the feature.

In the 305 Sprint Car feature, Jimmy McGrath Jr. scored his second win of 2025, both coming at Attica. McGrath, who started second, overtook pole-sitter John Ivy early and maintained control through traffic to seal the 25-lap victory. Ivy finished runner-up, and Dustin Stroup charged from sixth to complete the podium. Paul Weaver crossed in fourth, while Seth Schneider delivered a standout drive from 13th to fifth, earning Hard Charger honors.

The support class prelims provided plenty of variety, with heat race wins going to Weaver, Dustin Dinan, and Ivy. McGrath paced his qualifying group at 14.002, while JJ Henes turned the overall fastest 305 lap at 13.945. Brayden Harrison won the B Main and advanced five spots in the feature to cap off a strong night.
