Bloomfield Tops Padjen Classic, Smackdown Opens with 50+ Cars, Eisenschenk Twins Set for Outlaw Debuts

Good morning sprint car fans, it is Thursday, August 21st, 2025 — let’s fire off!

Gold Cup – Padjen Classic Recap & 410s Takeover
Night one of the Gold Cup Race of Champions is in the books at Silver Dollar Speedway, where 38 of the best 360 sprint car drivers kicked off the week with the John and Robbie Padjen Classic. The story of the night was 19-year-old Dylan Bloomfield, who put together a near-perfect run. Bloomfield topped his dash, started from the pole, and held off challenges from Spencer Bayston and Jesse Schlotfeldt through heavy lapped traffic to score the $7,100 A-Main victory. Behind him, Bayston came home second, Schlotfeldt third, with Dominic Gorden and Tanner Holmes rounding out the top five.

It was a milestone night for Bloomfield, who continues to climb the California sprint car ranks. The Padjen Classic win marked his second feature victory of 2025, a breakthrough season that now includes one of Chico’s most prestigious 360 triumphs.

But the real spotlight begins tonight, as the 410 sprint cars take over for their split-field prelims. Half the field races tonight, the other half tomorrow, with points earned in qualifying, heats, and features to determine Saturday’s $100,000-to-win finale. Notables expected on track this evening include Corey Day, Dominic Gorden, Justin Sanders, Tanner Holmes, Shane Golobic, Brad Sweet, Brent Marks, and Colby Copeland. Fans can catch every lap live on FloRacing.

USAC Smackdown XIV Begins
Meanwhile in Indiana, it’s Smackdown time at Kokomo Speedway. USAC Sprint Cars roll into the bullring tonight to open Smackdown XIV — a crown jewel event and a late-summer staple. More than 50 cars are entered for the weekend, setting up one of the deepest fields in the event’s history.

USAC published an excellent preview story this week, authored by Richie Murray, that’s packed with historical detail and spotlights on the legends who made Kokomo famous. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend checking it out — it’s linked below. The stage is set for three nights of action, with points, pride, and a Saturday $30,000 payday on the line.

And whether you’re a fan at the track or watching from home, don’t forget to check out my unofficial Smackdown fan guide in the articles section of the app. It’s loaded with history, format breakdowns, past winners, driver stats, and everything you need to get set for the weekend. For viewers at home, FloRacing has you covered with live flag-to-flag coverage all weekend long.

Eisenschenk Twins Set for Outlaw Debuts
Out west we had Gold Cup, and now turning north — the World of Outlaws made headlines on social media yesterday, announcing that Amelia and Laela Eisenschenk, 17-year-old twins and nieces of 10-time Outlaw champion Donny Schatz, will make their series debuts this weekend in North Dakota.

Both teenagers have already made names for themselves in regional sprint car racing. Amelia has tallied multiple feature wins in 305 Racesaver competition dating back to 2022. Laela has been on a hot streak this season, picking up victories across the Midwest in 2025. The two will now strap into 410 sprint cars against the Outlaws for the first time — an exciting opportunity not just for their family, but for fans eager to see the next generation of talent step up on dirt’s biggest stage.

Correction from Yesterday
And finally, a quick correction — yesterday I mentioned that Corey Day would not be in action at the Gold Cup opener. In fact, Day did compete, driving the Willie Kahne–owned number four. He finished seventh in the A-Main after starting 13th. Always good to set the record straight.

[OUTRO]
And that’s today’s sprint-car breakdown for August 21, 2025 — from Bloomfield’s Padjen Classic victory, to a 50-car Smackdown at Kokomo, to the Eisenschenk twins joining the Outlaws. All relevant links, show notes, and the full transcript are in the description below. If there’s anything I missed or got wrong, please feel free to reach out. Thanks for firing off with me — catch you next time!
