🎙️ Episode Transcript – August 22, 2025
[INTRO]
Good morning sprint car fans, it is Friday, August 22nd, 2025 — we’ve got a big night of action to catch up on, from Kokomo to Chico. Let’s fire off!
[RECAP — CHICO / GOLD CUP]
Out in Chico, California, Corey Day went back-to-back on Gold Cup preliminary night at Silver Dollar Speedway. Just like last year, the 19-year-old from Clovis outdueled Brad Sweet in traffic to grab the opening-night High Limit Racing feature. Starting eighth, Day carved his way forward, reached second by lap ten, and then swept around Sweet with twelve laps to go in a move that had the Chico crowd on their feet.
Sweet settled for second, with Brent Marks completing the podium. Dylan Bloomfield and Max Mittry rounded out the top five after a furious 30-lap battle. Earlier in the night, heat race wins went to Blaine Cory, Braden Chiaramonte, Tanner Holmes, and Joel Myers Jr., while Justin Peck recovered from a horror heat race to capture the first B-main to transfer into the feature. Day also set the pace in qualifying with an 11.424 second lap, edging Cory Eliason and Brent Marks. The depth of the field — from up-and-coming California locals to national standouts — showed just how stacked this Gold Cup is shaping up to be.
The action continues tonight with the second split preliminary program, another loaded roster, and more crucial points toward Saturday’s finale.
[RECAP — KOKOMO / SMACKDOWN]
Meanwhile in Indiana, Kokomo Speedway opened Sprint Car Smackdown XIV with an instant classic. Briggs Danner and Kyle Cummins staged a thriller, trading the lead multiple times in traffic before Danner slipped underneath with two laps to go and held on by just over a tenth of a second.
C.J. Leary led the early laps before finishing third, while Mitchel Moles and Hayden Reinbold filled out the top five. Logan Seavey stormed to a semi-feature win to keep his championship chase alive, and Ricky Lewis earned Hard Charger honors with an 11-spot climb. The victory marked Danner’s second straight USAC National Sprint Car win at Kokomo and set the tone for Saturday’s $30,000-to-win finale.
[UPCOMING EVENTS — FRIDAY PREVIEW]
Friday night brings a packed slate of sprint car racing across the map.
The World of Outlaws kick off their North Dakota swing at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The high-banked quarter-mile is a fan favorite, known for elbows-up racing, and local hero Donny Schatz leads the charge into his home state, where he’s already scored 12 career wins at the bullring.
Out west, Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Montana fires up the Harvey Ostermiller Memorial. The ASCS National Tour and Frontier Region collide in a two-night showdown, with Friday’s prelims setting the stage for Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale. Colorado’s Jake Bubak is the two-time and defending Ostermiller Memorial champion, but he enters this weekend still searching for his first sprint car win of the season. Adding to the intrigue, newly crowned Knoxville Nationals champion Ryan Timms makes his first ever trip to Big Sky, looking to add another milestone to his breakout season.
In Michigan, the All Star Circuit of Champions land at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa for a $7,500-to-win main event. Kalib Henry, already a three-time All Star winner this year, comes in narrowly leading the championship chase by 61 points over Devon Borden. Friday night’s program at the 4-tenths mile pairs the touring stars with some of Michigan’s best weekly talent.
North of the border, the Great Lakes Super Sprints roll into Ohsweken Speedway to open their Canadian double-header weekend. Nine-time winner Max Stambaugh currently leads the GLSS championship by 106 points over Jared Horstman, who has seven wins of his own this season. Their title fight adds another layer of intrigue to Friday’s showdown against some of Canada’s strongest sprint car teams.
In Pennsylvania, Williams Grove Speedway presents the 43rd annual Jack Gunn Memorial. The 410 sprints battle 30 laps for $8,000 to win, with Anthony Macri the defending champion and Troy Wagaman leading both the Diamond Series and track points heading into the homestretch.
And in Ohio, Attica Raceway Park’s Wilson Tire / Central Ohio Farmers Night puts the 410 sprint cars on center stage, continuing a season-long showcase of the region’s toughest local talent. Points leader Cap Henry heads in looking for his fourth win of the season at Attica, aiming to pad his edge in the track championship chase.
There is obviously tons of stuff I’ve missed, so please let me know what you’re watching. Little by little I’ll be adding more tracks, more series, and more races to the Raceday section on the app, so your feedback definitely helps prioritize what I should add first.
