Early in the feature, Jesse Schlotfeldt lit up the crowd with a daring three-wide move around James McFadden and a lap car to briefly take the lead. But the race flipped on a restart at halfway, when McFadden and Schlotfeldt made contact in turn two. It was a hard racing deal with no clear fault, but Schlotfeldt came to a heartbreaking stop while McFadden spun, completed a 360, and kept rolling with a damaged front end.
From there, Sanders carved his way forward, taking the lead with nine laps to go and holding off Scelzi and Thorson to the finish. McFadden salvaged fourth, with Spencer Bayston fifth. Corey Day will start tonight’s $100,071-to-win finale from the pole, Sanders from outside row one, and Scelzi third.
All the action will be live on FloRacing.
USAC National Sprint Cars - Smackdown XIV – Kokomo Speedway, IN

Cummins, the current USAC National Sprint Car point leader, shadowed Thomas throughout but couldn’t find a way by. Justin Grant moved forward to finish third, followed by Cale Coons and Jake Swanson.
The night also set the stage for Saturday’s $30,000-to-win finale. Cummins, Leary, Grant, Thomas, Moles, Danner, Drake, and Seavey are now locked into the big show, with the rest of the field fighting through qualifying races and the always-dramatic King of the Hill shootout to set the front rows.
World of Outlaws Sprint Cars – River Cities Speedway, ND
Buddy Kofoid delivered a statement win Friday night at River Cities Speedway, charging from ninth to capture the 40-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car feature. The California native’s late surge secured his second Outlaw victory of the season at the North Dakota bullring, completing a sweep of both visits in 2025.

Polesitter Emerson Axsom set the pace early before David Gravel powered to the lead on lap three. Sheldon Haudenschild ignited the crowd with a bold move in traffic to lead lap 12, but his night unraveled after contact with Skylar Gee sent him into the infield. That opened the door for Kofoid, who had already stormed into contention and used the cushion to climb past both Gravel and Axsom. From there, he controlled the final 12 laps to secure the victory.
Gravel held on for second, Carson Macedo mounted a steady charge to third, Logan Schuchart earned Hard Charger honors in fourth, and Axsom settled for fifth after winning the Dash.
The Grand Forks faithful were treated to classic River Cities action — sliders, cushion-pounding drama, and a late push that saw Gravel and Macedo chasing but never catching Kofoid. Next up, the Outlaws move west to Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo.

Behind him, veteran Seth Bergman secured second, while Montana’s own Trever Kirkland thrilled the crowd with a podium run in third. Blake Hahn took fourth, and Canadian Kelly Miller charged from 16th to 5th for Hard Charger honors.
The race wasn’t without chaos. Sam Hafertepe Jr. won the B-Main to transfer but spun while running mid-pack, Elijah Gile hit the turn-four wall in a hard crash but walked away, and Zach Blurton lost a top-five run to mechanical gremlins in the closing laps.
The field returns tonight for the $15,000-to-win finale, one of the richest sprint car races in Montana history.

The back-to-back rounds gave fans plenty of wheel-to-wheel racing, and the action will only get more intense in Darwin as the buildup toward the $50,000-to-win Chariots of Thunder continues.
Coming Up Tonight
Lincoln Speedway – Abbottstown, PA
Lincoln hosts the Kramer Klash with the 410s running time trials for $7,300 to win, joined by the 358s. Freddie Rahmer leads the track points by 70 over Troy Wagaman Jr., with Matt Campbell, Cameron Smith, and Aaron Bollinger rounding out the top five.
Knoxville Raceway – Knoxville, IA
It’s Season Championship Night at Knoxville, where titles will be officially decided in the 410s, 360s, and Pro Sprints. Austin McCarl has the 410 crown all but sealed with Brian Brown, Kerry Madsen, and Ryan Timms out of the picture. Tasker Phillips leads the 360s, while J Kinder has already clinched the Pro Sprint title.
Tonight also marks the final sprint car race of the year at Knoxville, before the Sprint Car Capital of the World shifts focus to the Late Model Nationals.
Skagit Speedway – Alger, WA
Skagit hosts its last weekly show before the High Limit Nationals. The 360s headline with Trey Starks leading the points over Jason Solwold and Colton Heath. Heath has been in top form with a recent win at the track, while Levi Hillier and Levi Klatt continue to search for their first Skagit 360 victories of the season. Both broke through as rookies last year — Hillier already owns three wins away from home in 2025, while Klatt stunned fans with his thrilling 410 triumph on opening night of Dirt Cup.
Several regulars — Jesse Schlotfeldt, Robbie Price, and Chase Goetz — are away at Gold Cup this weekend.
The Sportsman Sprint standings are razor-tight. Jayden Whitney leads with 855 points, just 17 ahead of Steven Hendrickson and 20 ahead of Jesson Jacobson. Keira Zylstra sits fourth, and rookie Macie Logsdon rounds out the top five. With Hendrickson fresh off his third win of the year and Whitney and Jacobson trading blows all summer, tonight could shuffle the deck yet again.
Skagit’s weekly shows do not have a streaming partner, but fans can follow along with their dedicated live broadcast team on the track’s YouTube channel. Next week’s Skagit Nationals, however, will be carried live on FloRacing.
I know there is a ton more racing going on all over the countryside — from the Western Renegade Nonwing Sprints at Devils Lake Speedway in North Dakota, to the IRA and MOWA 410s with Wisconsin wingLESS at LaSalle Speedway’s Bill Waite Jr. Memorial in Illinois, to the Johnson Memorial at Paragon Speedway in Indiana, the Wingless Sprint Series at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon, 360 Sprint Cars at Grays Harbor Raceway in Washington, the Iron Head Sprints at Southern Oregon Speedway, and the USCS Sprint Cars at Hattiesburg Speedway in Mississippi. Add in the weekly 410 shows across Ohio and Pennsylvania, and ASCS and regional 360 action around the Midwest, and there’s no shortage of sprint car racing to follow this weekend. We’ll get to as much of it as we can, but if you’re at the track, send me a note and let me know what you’re watching.
[OUTRO] And that’s today’s sprint-car breakdown for Saturday, August 23, 2025 — from Sanders’ Gold Cup heroics in Chico, to Thomas Jr.’s Smackdown mastery at Kokomo, to Kofoid’s River Cities sweep in North Dakota. All relevant links, show notes, and the full transcript are in the description below. If there’s anything I missed or got wrong, please feel free to reach out. Thanks for firing off with me — catch you next time!
