(Editors note: Actual read may differ from script.)
Good morning sprint car fans, it is Sunday, August 24, 2025 — another packed night of action is in the books, with storylines from coast to coast. Let’s fire off!
🌎 National Roundup
Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway
History was made in Chico, California. At just 19 years old, Corey Day joined Steve Kinser as the only driver to win the Gold Cup Race of Champions three years in a row. Day’s third crown didn’t come easy — he led early, lost the top spot to Justin Sanders, and then stalked him through traffic before retaking the lead on lap 23. From there he defended relentlessly, threading lapped cars and holding off Sanders to claim the $100,071 payday.
Sanders, chasing his first Gold Cup title, settled for second after leading 18 laps, while Brad Sweet rounded out the podium in his 20th career attempt at the crown jewel. The rest of the top ten included James McFadden, Tanner Carrick, Daison Pursley, Spencer Bayston, Dominic Scelzi, Joey Ancona, and Sye Lynch. Hard Charger went to Caeden Steele, who climbed from 24th to 11th.
➡️ Up next: High Limit Racing heads to Douglas County Dirtrack in Oregon on Monday, August 25, then north to Burlington, Washington for the $126,000-to-win Skagit Nationals, August 28–30. In the championship battle, Brad Sweet holds the lead, with Rico Abreu just 71 points back and Brent Marks third, 120 behind.
Smackdown at Kokomo Speedway
At Kokomo, Indiana, fans witnessed a comeback for the ages. Justin Grant, less than a month removed from breaking his left foot in a crash at Lawrenceburg, returned to win his fifth Kokomo Smackdown and third in a row.
Starting fifth, Grant chased Briggs Danner, who led 35 straight laps before disaster struck. Danner caught the cushion and flipped violently with just two laps remaining, handing the lead to Grant. On the restart, he fended off Kyle Cumminsand Logan Seavey to pocket the $31,000 victory.
The win tied Grant with Dave Darland for the most USAC National Sprint Car wins all-time at 62. Off the track, Smackdown weekend also raised over $158,000 for Riley Children’s Hospital.
➡️ Up next: The USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship resumes Friday, September 5, at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. Kyle Cummins leads the national points standings, with Mitchel Moles and Logan Seavey next in line as the season charges into its fall stretch.
World of Outlaws at Red River Valley Speedway
In West Fargo, North Dakota, the Outlaws delivered what might be the race of the year. Sheldon Haudenschild, Christopher Thram, and Carson Macedo all took turns at the front in a thriller filled with sliders, a three-wide battle, and late-race contact.
Haudenschild led early, Thram shocked the field by ripping past for the lead, and then Macedo closed in from sixth. A late caution set up a four-lap sprint, and the final two circuits were chaos. Coming to the white flag, Haudenschild and Macedo made contact down the frontstretch. Sheldon briefly pulled ahead, but Macedo regrouped, set up a perfect turn three slider, and edged him at the line for his 10th win of the season.
David Gravel rounded out the podium, with Logan Schuchart and Buddy Kofoid completing the top five. The win was Macedo’s 57th career Outlaws triumph, moving him within one of Jason Meyers for second among California drivers all-time.
➡️ Up next: The Outlaws head to South Dakota for the Huset’s Shootout, August 30–31. David Gravel remains the points leader, with Macedo closing the gap.
ASCS at Big Sky Speedway
In Montana, Ryan Timms continued his magical month, dominating the Harvey Ostermiller Memorial at Big Sky Speedway. Starting from the pole, the 18-year-old led all 30 laps, sweeping the weekend and collecting $15,000.
Timms sliced through traffic, built a seven-second advantage, and even after a late caution, was never seriously challenged. Seth Bergman won a slider war with Jason Martin for second, while Blake Hahn and Jake Bubak rounded out the top five. Canadian Kelly Miller charged from 24th to 9th to earn Hard Charger honors.
It was Timms’ ninth career ASCS victory and adds to a streak that now includes the Knoxville Nationals, a Huset’s Speedway win, and back-to-back Montana triumphs — all in August alone.
➡️ Up next: The ASCS National Tour stays in Montana for the Montana Roundup at Electric City Speedway, August 29–30. In the standings, Sam Hafertepe Jr. remains on top with nine wins this season, ahead of Blake Hahn and Matt Covington.

Skagit Speedway – Final Tune-Up Before Nationals
In Washington, Jason Solwold took advantage of lapped traffic to win the 360 Sprint feature. Cam Smith led the first 23 laps, but Solwold found grip on the low line and stole the top spot on lap 24. He held off Trey Starks and Levi Hillierto seal the deal.

Ryan Turner finished second, Liam Martin third, with Dustin Daggett and Darren Dryden rounding out the top five.
In the championship hunt, Max Stambaugh finished ninth but maintains the series lead with 5,135 points, just 143 clear of Jared Horstman.
➡️ Up next: GLSS returns stateside Friday, August 29, at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Michigan, where the Stambaugh–Horstman fight continues.
There was obviously a ton more racing going on around the country and I’m doing my best to get to it all. You can find a bunch more info from races I didn’t mention in the RACECAR Illustrated.com results feed — but please, hit me up in the comments and let me know where you were watching from.
