Bobby Pierce has swept the Slocum 50 weekend at 34 Raceway in Iowa. Now a five-time Slocum winner, Pierce claimed the Saturday night 50 lapper in a to-the-wire thriller over Carson Ferguson.
Friday night action began with Garrett Alberson setting quicktime at 15.053 seconds. Drake Troutman, Pierce, Brian Shirley and Dennis Erb Jr won heat races. Pierce would win the preliminary night 40-lapper from Erb Jr and Shirley respectively.
On Saturday Brian Shirley would come out of the box with quicktime at 15.183 seconds. Shirley, Erb Jr, Pierce and Carson Ferguson won the heat races. The feature race finale was a tooth and nail battle from start to finish between Pierce and Ferguson. Ferguson had the crowd on his side and looked to have the advantage entering the last lap. Pierce held position and ripped the top through turns three and four to win his fifth Slocum 50 crown.
Bobby Pierce leads MARS Late Model Series points by 78 markers over Brian Shirley. Pierce has 10 wins in 24 total feature races this calendar year.
