Sprint Car Gold Cup - Perth Motorplex - Kwinana Beach, WA
A huge Saturday Night program at Perth Motorplex has seen Callum Williamson win the 410 Sprint Car 'Gold Cup', Harry Stewart crowned WA Speedcar (midget) champion and Smokin' Joe Chalmers take out the Late Model Nationals.
In sprint car sction Michael Keen (41) scores his second pole position of the season and brings the feature to green alongside Dayne Kingshott (2). Callum Williamson (3) and Ryan Newton (17) make up the second row.
Kingshott gets a flyer, Keen is quickly swallowed up by Williamson and Newton.
Disaster for Newton on lap 9 as Ricky Maiolo (77) spins in turns 1 and 2, leaving the young Queenslander nowhere to go. The night is over for Monte Motorsports.
With 10 laps remaining Jack Williamson (24) is into third and challenging his namesake for second. Just one lap later and it’s Kaiden Manders (60) taking the third spot as the yellow flies for Jason Kendrick (11) who is slowing after getting into the wall.
After the restart there is slight contact between Kingshott and Williamson but the Krikke #2 holds serve. Far from done, it’s Callum Williamson with a bomb into three and four.
The leaders swap immense sliders for two laps, thrilling momentum based big track sprint car racing at it’s best. Williamson finally cuts off enough of Kingshott’s momentum with 6 laps to go.
Kingshott will not go away though! Jack Williamson and Manders are not ready to be counted out just yet either.
Three laps remain and Callum Williamson maintains a handy advantage.
The yellow is out with 2 to go. The 65 is in the wall.
Absolute carnage on the restart as Taylor Milling (25) gets the wort of a mid-pack stackup and is launched into the catchfence before even taking the green.
One final restart and it’s Callum Williamson controlling the final laps to win the penultimate 410 sprint car feature of the season at Perth Motorplex. Kingshott gets another podium and Manders is third. Jamie Maiolo recovered from the early spin to finish fourth and Ryan Lancaster (44) completed the top 5.
