Jock Goodyer is $20,000 richer after winning the 2nd Annual Harbour City Classic at Gladstone Speedway in Queensland, Australia. Goodyer rebounded from struggles on night 1 to steal a thrilling final night feature victory from defending event champion Lachlan McHugh.
Night 1 preliminary action began with Brock Hallett setting quicktime at 12.411 seconds. Heat race wins went to Shaun Dobson and McHugh. Luke Oldfield was victorious in the $10,000 to win preliminary A-main, Australian champion James McFadden nailed runner-up honours and McHugh was third.
The night 2 finale was completed sans qualifying with just two additional heat races and dashes on the program to decide feature starting positions. Oldfield and McFadden won the heat races, Mcfadden went on to also win the dash and claim pole position for the feature. McHugh started next to JMac on the front row and controlled the majority of the race but late cautions brought Goodyer back into the fray. Goodyer continued to get better as the race unfolded, throwing a slider under McHugh on a restart, taking the lead with less than a handful of laps remaining. McHugh held on for second and McFadden salvaged a final podium before returning to the US for their upcoming summer.
